Here we are, already a few days into the new year. The last two weeks have passed especially fast. In last month’s column, I concentrated on telling you about the library programs scheduled through the end of this year. In doing so, I missed mentioning an important September date, worthy of attention: the 59th anniversary of our library. Yes, on Sept. 3, 1957, at the Collier County Commission’s board meeting in Everglades City, the county seat back then, they voted to create the Collier County Free Public Library. It’s November and time for numbers and news. Collier County government, of which our library is a part, ends its fiscal year every Sept. 30. So we now have full-year data about library activity. It’s always interesting to see what people choose to check out from our library branches. Throughout the year, the Friends of the Library exhibits the works of a variety of highly talented local artists at the Collier County Public Library on Central Avenue in downtown Naples. One of our most exciting exhibits is currently on display and features the works of photographers who are members of the Naples Digital Photo Image Special Interest Group, DPI-SIG. More than 60 framed photographs, available for sale, ranging from birds to animals, to landscapes and portraits, adorn the western hallway in the library. Read full article...
